London Reclaimed started in 2011 as an employment charity with a passion to help young people who struggle to step up into employment. We provide job-specific training, employability skills, tailored mentoring and paid work to 16-25 years olds in South East London.

We now run a paid trainee programme in our two charity owned businesses: Goldfinch Furniture & Lumberjack Café. Young people are with us for one year at the Goldfinch Furniture workshop or six months at Lumberjack Café before we help them transition into their next job, course or training.

Training and mentoring young people takes skill, time and money and each business cannot fully cover the additional costs of employing our young people. London Reclaimed, the parent charity, subsidises their part time salaries and part of their training costs to enable each business to run smoothly and to give the full time staff the time to get our young trainees up to an employable standard.

We firmly believe that if the next generation is not properly trained, equipped and supported into working life then we have not only let them down but society as a whole suffers. In the next year we hope to take on 6-10 more trainees from South East London for our intensive programme of paid work and training.

The experience they gain is invaluable, enabling them to move forward with confidence, experience and tangible skills. We have great links with other businesses, colleges and training providers and make sure that they make the right step into the next phase of their working life.
